In 2003, life as I knew it was changing. I was retiring from a career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons,
moving to a new state, and ending a long marriage. Faced with fear, depression and indecision, I prayed to
God to close the doors in my life that needed to be closed and open those that needed to be opened. I can
tell you that he listened. God brought wonderful people (my earthly angels) to surround me and lift me up.
I went to the art store and purchased an acrylic set. My first painting was of my twin grandsons and me on
the beach. I took my art to my artist friend, Jill, and she told me she thought I had talent. She encouraged me to
take art lessons with Shirley Schneider in Phoenix. Through Shirley and the other artists, I found encouragement and
learned technique and grace. Through my art, I have experienced the great gift of peace. I look at colors and
symmetry and the beauty in nature in a new way. Time stands still when I am painting.
I am thankful that God blessed me so richly and abundantly in ways that I could not even imagine. I am
grateful to all my fellow artists who shared their gifts with me. It is my prayer I may honor God in all that
I do for saving me from myself.
